Our Industry Expert Panel will select the best 15 District sites from the nominations by using this grading criteria.
Ken is the director of an education technology blog, The Educator’s Royal Treatment, and Scholastic Administrator Tech Editor. Ken is a veteran teacher with 34 years of classroom experience, and the last three of those spent as an instructional technology specialist. Teaching accomplishments include: 4-time district teacher of the year, at different grade levels, and Connecticut Middle School Teacher of the Year, as well as Bill and Melinda Gates award for Technology School of Excellence. Ken has been a freelance education technology writer since the early 90s, mostly with Tech & Learning, and past editor at two education media publishers, online and print--District Administration magazine, and Scholastic Administrator and Scholastic Instructor magazines.
Shelly is a technology teacher trainer and social media consultant for language institutes, schools, and educational organizations worldwide. She is the Director of Educator Outreach for Parentella.com, a network that shares news to keep parents informed about what is happening in their student’s classroom. She is also a co-coordinator of #Edchat, a weekly Twitter discussion, the winner of the most influential tweet discussion for the 2009 Edublog Awards along with Tom Whitby and Steven Anderson. Shelly is an avid blogger, and her blog, Teacher Reboot Camp, is an endless resource of information and collaboration of strategies for engaging all students through effective instructional methods and technology.
Tom is an Adjunct Professor of Education in Secondary English at St. Joseph’s College, a winner of the New York State United Teachers 30 year Service Award, Linkedin group founder and owner of Technology-Using Professors, Twitter-Using Educators, as well as Ning-Using Educators. He is the creator of the Educator’s PLN on Ning, a personal learning network for educators. Tom is also a co-coordinator of #Edchat, a weekly Twitter discussion, the winner of the most influential tweet discussion for the 2009 Edublog Awards along with Shelly Terrell and Steven Anderson.
Steven is the Instructional Technologist for Clemmons Middle School in Winston-Salem, NC. Steven has always had a passion for technology in the classroom, beginning his first year of teaching where he was recognized for his use of technology in an alternative school to help students succeed. Recently, he has presented at several technology camps and conferences where he shares his passion with other educators. He shares knowledge through his blog, Blogging About the Web 2.0 Connected Classroom, and other postings. Steven is also a co-coordinator of #Edchat, a weekly Twitter discussion, the winner of the most influential tweet discussion for the 2009 Edublog Awards along with Shelly Terrell and Tom Whitby. He also won the award for best individual Tweeter (@web20classroom). With an undergraduate degree in Middle Grades Education from Western Carolina University, and a Master of Arts In Education in Instructional Technology from East Carolina University, Steven continues to share his philosophy that technology in the classroom is crucial for student success.
