About the SchoolE Judging Panel

The 2011 SchoolE Awards judging panel is comprised of leaders in the educational technology field, Higher Education web content, design and navigation experts and graphic and web design experts.

Our Expert Panel will select 7 finalist district websites from the semi-finalists of each category by using this criteria.

Kristi Colvin

Chief Creative Officer

Kristi Colvin has been creating business communications since 1993 for leading software organizations and small-to-medium size start-up companies, primarily as a self-employed business owner. A foundation in print design and retail visual merchandising, led to web site design, user interface design (gui design + information architecture + branding + usability) and she specializes in making product and brand experiences better for users, customers and employees.

Kristi currently directs a full range of design, user experience, brand and development services for clients as a partner in Fresh ID, LLC, based in downtown Kansas City. Kristi founded Fresh ID in 2002. A bona fide Twitter addict and power user, in 2008 she designed Intefy, a real-time, integrated social media platform. She has been frequently interviewed and is mentioned in the books Twitterville and Unmarketing as well as hundreds of posts and articles. In January 2010 she was named one of Forbes 14 Power Women to Follow on Twitter. She writes about user and brand experience, social media marketing and customer care on her sites and blogs.

Shelly Sanchez Terrell

Educator, VP of Educator Outreach for Parentella, The Consultants-E Social Media Community Manager

Shelly Sanchez Terrell has been an educator in the US and Germany since 1994. She is the VP of Educator Outreach for Parentella and The Consultants-E Social Media Community Manager. She is the co-organizer and co-creator of the award winning educational projects, Edchat, The Reform Symposium E-Conference, and the Virtual Round Table conference, connecting her to over 10,000 educators worldwide.  Her prolific presence in the educator community has been recognized by several notable entities, such as Converge Magazine, the 140 Conference, Mashable, English Central, Simple K12, Schoology, Tefl.net, T/H/E JOURNAL, and Ed Week. The New York Times learning blog has included her on its list of the top 78 educators to follow on Twitter due to her connection with nearly 9,000 educators. Her education blog, Teacher Reboot Camp, is ranked as one of the top 50 best blogs for education leaders and the top 5 language teaching blogs. Additionally, Shelly has made a presence with her free e-book, The 30 Goals Challenge, which challenges educators to complete 30 social media goals in 30 days.

Steven Anderson

District-Level Instructional Technology leader

Steven is a recognized leader in using Social Media in Education, speaking at the #140 Character Conferences, ISTE, NCTIES and many virtual presentations and being honored with the 2009 Edublogs Award for Twitterer of the Year and the 2009 NOW Award, recognizing the "Movers And Shakers" in the world of Social Media. He has been a classroom teacher, building-level Instructional Technology leader and currently a District-Level Instructional Technology leader working with school and district administrators on how to harness the power of technology to improve learning. Steven resides in Winston-Salem, NC with his wife, Melissa and their 1 year old daughter, Reaghan.
 
Steven Anderson holds a Bachelors of Science in Middle Grades Math and Science Education from Western Carolina University and a Master of Arts in Education in Instructional Technology degree from East Carolina University.

Kyle Pace

Instructional Technology Specialist

Kyle Pace is an Instructional Technology Specialist for the Lee's Summit School District. Kyle provides instructional technology professional development to teachers at all grade levels and subject areas. Kyle has previously written guest blog posts for Edutopia and the ISTE Connects blog and is one of the moderators of #EdChat every Tuesday night at 6pm. Kyle was named a GameClassroom.com Top Educator in May 2010. In January 2009, Kyle co-authored the book Integrating Technology With Music Instruction published by Alfred Publishing.

Lisa Dabbs

Educational Coach & Consultant, Edutopia.org New Teacher Group Facilitator, Non-Profit Board Member

Lisa has an extensive educational background having worked in the industry for over 20 years. She is an Educational Coach and Consultant, Edutopia.org New Teacher Connections Group Facilitator, and Board Member of two Non-Profit organizations. She is also a newly appointed Library Board of Trustee in her community.

Lisa has served as an elementary school principal for 14 years, a federal programs project director, English Language Arts consultant for Kaplan Educational Corporation and Adjunct Professor for Concordia University. She is currently working as 1:1 Educational Coach and Consultant supporting new teachers and educational organizations utilizing leadership experience in the areas of curriculum and instruction, English Language Learners, Early Childhood Education, educational technology, and parent education.

Lisa is the originator of New Teacher Chat (#ntchat), a weekly chat for new teachers on Twitter. She is also currently on the coordinating team of the The Reform Symposium E-Conference and Edcamp Orange County, the first Un-Conference in California. She is speaking nationally at the ASCD Annual Conference, and SXSW Edu Project Share.  Lisa holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Child Development and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration.

Michael Fienen

Director of Web Marketing

Michael joined Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS in 2006 and is currently the Director of Web Marketing there. He is also the CTO for the interactive map provider nuCloud and is a writer for the award winning higher ed web development blog .eduGuru (http://doteduguru.com). With a decade of work in web development, his focus has been on interpersonal communication and how it relates to web usage in his efforts to improve and enhance the higher ed web space. Additionally, his background in content management systems and content strategy are assets he frequently shares with the community. He is an active supporter of the dotCMS community, accessibility advocate, freelance consultant, frequent speaker at web events, and general purpose geek who wears many hats. Michael's first book, "dotCMS from the Ground Up," will be released in early November.

Nick DeNardis

Associate Director of Web Communications at Wayne State University

Nick DeNardis is the Associate Director of Web Communications at Wayne State University. As host of the video blog, EDU Checkup, he reviews higher education websites from the point of view of a first time visitor, while critiquing the design, information architecture and code of the sites. He is a staff writer at .eduGuru, a higher education marketing and web development blog. He takes an active role in the higher education web community by sharing his thoughts and real world analysis in the Wayne State Web Communications Blog. He is also an officer for Refresh Detroit, a group of web professionals whose goal is to promote web standards, usability, and accessibility.

Jared Dunn

Graphic Designer

Jared has been in the Graphic Design field for 8 years. He began his career as a freelance design artist and currently works as a Graphic Designer at Silpada Designs. He specializes in print with an emphasis on layout and typography. He has experience with logo, screen print clothing, and print material design. 
 
Jared also uses his expertise in graphic design for causes such as RivertoWell and FosterHope Initiative.  He serves as a Graphic Designer on the RivertoWell Team and is also a Graphic Designer and Co-Founder for the FosterHope Initiative.
